STRATEGY 1.A. Cultivate educational outreach opportunities and learning initiatives to better prepare and support incoming and returning students.

Action 1.A.1: Implement a framework for high school outreach designed to support campus recruitment and retention efforts. IN PROGRESS


  • CFI members met with staff from the KU Office of Admissions to discuss ways we can collaborate to best serve incoming KU students.
    • Identified a range of activities/opportunities for future engagement, to include providing content about the libraries for Admissions publications/promotions, scheduling tour stops in the libraries, coordinating with Ambassadors, etc.
    • Libraries will distribute Admissions’ recruitment literature to area high school students who visit KU Libraries for instruction sessions, tours and presentations.

Action 1.A.2: Create a program of curricular consultation and outreach to high school teachers and school librarians at KU's top feeder schools.

Action 1.E.1: Develop an instruction and outreach plan for integration of information literacy and critical thinking skills into the undergraduate curriculum at all levels and potential entry points. IN PROGRESS

Action 1.E.3: Conduct professional development opportunities for KU classroom faculty on information literacy integration into programs, courses and assignments.

  • Initiated observation of American Studies courses (110, 100, and 360) to identify entry points for information literacy.
  • Engaged in discussions with American Studies departmental leadership and faculty regarding departmental goals and objectives. This creates opportunity to include information literacy language in departmental goals and objectives.
  • Submitted proposal with American Studies to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences’ Course Transformation Initiative for a post-doctoral fellow (efforts which can be applied to exploring other funding opportunities).

STRATEGY 4.A. Achieve institutional funding levels equivalent to peer organizations.

Action 4.A.1: Explore an increase to the current $1 per credit hour library fee. IN PROGRESS


  • Pursing alternate options after the fee increase was rejected by the Provost’s Tuition Advisory Committee, due restrictions from the Board of Regents regarding fee increases.

Action 4.A.2: Research the potential for a new Required Campus Fee (RFC) designed to expand library services and enhance facilities.

Action 4.A.3: Ensure vital library support for major initiatives by securing a portion of funds earmarked to support institutional advancement.

STRATEGY 4.B. Seek grants for the Libraries as an organization and for individual library faculty and staff research initiatives.

  • Held donor engagement events in Lawrence and further solidified plans for a 27-city tour of a KU Libraries exhibit with KUAA in celebration of the 150th.
  • Secured part-time support of a general development director via KUEA (in addition to the half-time position within KU Libraries).
